      Willow Weaving at Newington

      · Events

We were treated to the basics of the ancient skill of willow weaving at St Nicholas Newington today, making nest boxes. A good number of people came and figured out how to weave from slender poles of willow. It needed some strong fingers and a mind that knew. Once the knack was established, you could see people reach a deep concentrated zen like place as they just felt the way the willow needed to go. All the finished items had such a variety of different shapes and sizes. It may be that a group might gather to take their new learned skills up a notch in time to come! Thanks to Mary for organising and to all the people who assisted such an enjoyable and therepuetic craft event.
