St Martin's Bible Study group meets each first and third Monday of the month from 2-4pm in one of our group member's lovely homes very close to St Martin's Church. All members of our Benefice are very welcome.
We recently enjoyed much lively discussion and reflection over a course which told Bible stories through a number of classical paintings. On Monday, 18th September we began a new journey based on the Book of Acts. We are using the book 'Acts: Seeing God's Power in Action' by Phyllis J. Le Peau, which contains 24 study sessions for individuals and groups. It tells us that, "Acts is the extraordinary record of what the early Christian disciples did. The power that you see in action in this book is the same power that can transform your life."
Today, we discussed the stories of Tabitha and Cornelius from Acts 9 and 10, and learned about Peter's vision telling him that 'God has no favourites' and that what has been broken is being mended everywhere and amongst everyone. We were prompted to reflect on our relationships with those who are different from us, whether because of ethnicity and culture, religion, gender, sexuality, neurodiversity, political beliefs and in all manner of other ways, and to consider how we might enhance those relationships and listen to God through them.
Our next gathering will be on Monday, 2nd October. This is a warm and friendly group which meets for discussion, study, and good company. If you would like to come along, whether you attend St Martin's or not, you would be very welcome.
Please contact Linda or Jacqueline via the church office for further information.
